Hi there! My name is Patty Korona Bunyard. Korona’s Formal Wear is working to get reopened as soon as possible. We are starting with Retail To Go hours 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm Friday April 24th. We are both excited and cautious.
Here’s some Korona’s history in San Angelo, Texas:
My parents, Louise and Wilson Korona, and siblings, Terry, Sandy, and Kevin. Billy and I weren't born yet!
1960- Louise and Wilson Korona, my parents, bought The Fabric Shop in downtown San Angelo. My grandmother, Annabelle Hillyer, had worked at that shop for 10 years. In 1963, my parents moved our family to San Angelo to take over operations.
My brothers and sisters: Sandy, Kevin, Me, Billy, and Terry
1970- Louise and Wilson built a 13,00 square foot building for the fabric store on empty Knickerbocker Road across from San Angelo Stadium. My two brothers, two sisters, grandmother, parents, and me have worked and played in the store. Seems to me, that’s all we did. Korona’s is truly a family small business.
My mother Louise, my first born Sawyer, and Me!
1980s- We changed our store name to Korona’s Formal Wear and began selling bridal gowns and renting tuxedos and then added formal dresses. We have always evolved and found new ways and merchandise to sell to the people and communities around San Angelo.
My oldest daughter Sawyer and her husband Nathan and my youngest daughter Bailey and her husband Ryan
1990s-2000s- I raised two daughters and their friends in our store. We chose dresses for Glenn and Freshman Campus Favorites dances, Tri Hi Y (now Tri Phi) dances, and their proms. We rented tuxedos to everyone’s dates. Both girls got married and wore the most beautiful wedding dresses from my store.
Me! Multitasking right before the Stay at Home order
2020- I’ve seen my family come and go working at the store. I have employed countless young people in their first jobs. My background in fabrics and sewing thrills me when a beautiful bride or a stunning prom girl loves the way they look in their dress altered to fit by me and my staff. Sometimes it’s the first dress they’ve ever worn and that is a good feeling.
This year, we celebrate 60 years in business as a family. Thank you for being there with us all these years. We look forward to being there and seeing you soon.
Korona’s Formal Wear has been open for over 60 years. We sure do miss everyone!
Korona’s Formal Wear is temporarily closed and working at home to comply with the Stay at Home guidelines.
We wish you the best health and safety during the Covid-19 Virus Pandemic.
We are reaching out to our brides and grooms checking on new wedding dates. It looks like summer going to be busier than usual for us all. Steaming wedding dresses and bagging tuxedo rentals is going to feel amazing. We want our West Texas couples down the aisle!
What to do about Prom? Some schools lucked out with their February and early March proms! The rest of us are suffering. Please encourage your schools to reschedule proms late May and this summer. You were ready with your promposals, prom dresses, and tuxedo rentals. We know that y’all miss being with your friends and classmates. A late May or summer Prom is the reunion you need to reconnect before Fall.
Quinceaneras have been postponed too. The upside is Quince girls get two 15th birthday celebrations this year! We will have your dresses steamed and pressed for your new date and your court ready too. If you need Dama dresses and Escort clothing rentals for summer and fall parties, we can’t wait to show you what we have to offer. Our vendors are anxious too.
Korona’s Formal Wear started as a tiny fabric store in downtown San Angelo and has grown into dressing generations of West Texans for their formal events. The pandemic has changed our schedule, but not our hearts. Finding the perfect dress and tuxedo for you and your family is our passion. We can’t wait to do so safely. Hang in there! We are Texas Strong and can’t wait to party with you!
